Khatsahlano Street Party
Head down to 4th Avenue on July 9th, 2022 for a fabulous music and arts festival. Enjoy live music from local performers and bands, a selection of great food from local restaurants and a chance to win prizes. The street festival offers somethings for everyone. 4th Avenue is blocked off from cars from from Burrard to MacDonald Street. Start on either end and meander your your way along and enjoy the sunshine and entertainment.

Outsiders and Others window gallery

Art can provide a deeper understanding of the lived experience of mental health and substance use issues – both for artists themselves and for the viewer. This exhibition aims to step beyond limiting societal perceptions of artists with lived experience of these issues by presenting a curated selection of artworks reflecting narratives that are often left out, misrepresented, or misunderstood.
Artists participating in this exhibition include: Katie Cummings, Christine Delay, Carrie Hill, Mina Mitic, Clare Palmer, Bart Vulliamy, and Aileen Yadokoro.
This exhibition was co-curated by Yuri Arajs, Director/Curator at Outsiders and Others, and Seema Shah, a self-taught artist with lived experience of mental health issues. It is part of a community partnership project funded by Vancouver Coastal Health’s Consumer Initiative Fund. New Chinatown Storytelling Centre
The Chinatown Storytelling Centre documents and shares the cultural stories of the Chinese Canadian community as experienced and witnessed through its historic epicentre, Vancouver’s Chinatown.
Those who have come before us have made many sacrifices and persevered with the hope they were creating a better future for the next generation. As we honour our past we are inspired to shape a better future. The Chinatown Storytelling Centre aims to share stories of resilience, sacrifice, and courage which lays the foundation for the lives we live today. |
Voxel Bridge Art Exhibition
Voxel Bridge, created by Columbian artist Jessica Angel, is a one-of-a-kind public art installation featuring augmented reality and blockchain technology underneath the south end of the Cambie Bridge. The exhibition is 19,000-square-feet in size and was created in association with the Vancouver Biennale. The artwork explores how public space can be constructed and used both physically and digitally. Voxel Bridge will remain in place and open to the public until 2023.

Covid 19 Call for Submissions: Kickstart Disability Arts & Culture
Kickstart Disability Arts and Culture gives artists with disabilities a voice. They are are committed to supporting and promoting artists in every discipline, with all disabilities.
In coronavirus times, they are looking for literary, visual or performative artistic submissions from disability identified artists in the community. These works will investigate the creative process in this time of isolation, economic and health precariousness, and social uncertainty. To submit you need to be a member; memberships for those on a fixed income is $10; some 'by donation' memberships are available for those unable to pay. Selected writers/artists will be paid $100 for one blog post. |
