​Customer Crisis Fund (CCF)

​Customer Crisis Fund (CCF)
The Customer Crisis Fund (CCF) is a program offered by BC Hydro to assist residential customers who have been disconnected or are at risk of disconnection due to unpaid bills. The CCF is intended for those who are experiencing temporary financial difficulties, such as job loss, unexpected medical expenses, or the death of a family member.
​
To be eligible for the CCF, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be the BC Hydro residential account holder or authorized representative
  • Live at the address where the bill is in arrears
  • Have a balance in arrears of less than $1,000
  • Have experienced a life event within the past year that caused a temporary financial crisis
  • Have made previous attempts to pay their bill
  • Have used all legal income sources
  • Be ready and able to provide documentation
  • Apply online or at a Service BC location

Grants are $600 for electric heated homes and $500 for non-electric heated homes, and do not need to be repaid and are limited to one per year.

Vancouver Rent Bank
The Housing Stability Loan Program is a service that provides one-time, interest-free loans to people who are at risk of eviction, homelessness, or utility disconnection due to temporary financial difficulties. The loans can be used to pay for rent, security deposits, and necessary utilities (ex. gas).

Eligibility for the program is determined by the following criteria:
  • Applicants must be at least 19 years old and residents of the City of Vancouver
  • Applicants must have a reliable source of income and meet the criteria for low income
  • Applicants must have legal status in Canada
  • Applicants must have an active bank account

To apply for a Housing Stability Loan, candidates must provide proof of income, statements of expenses, valid identification, and proof of tenancy. The maximum loan amount for a single borrower is $1300 and $1800 for families. Repayment of the loans is spread out over a 24-month period.

In addition to providing financial assistance, the Program also offers resources to help individuals better manage their limited financial resources.

Housing Stability Loan

Subsidized Housing Program

​Various PHS Community Services Society Shelter’s
Subsidized housing is long-term housing for people who permanently reside in British Columbia. Rental fees are calculated on a rent geared to income basis (30% of household total gross income, subject to minimum rent based on # of people).

Eligibility:
  • Family – Defined as a minimum of two people, including one dependent child. Who is considered a dependent child? An unmarried child, stepchild, adopted child or legal ward, mainly supported by the applicant, who is: ·        
    • Under 19 years of age; or
    • Under 25 years of age and registered in full-time school, university or vocational institute which provides a recognized diploma, certificate, or degree; or
    • Of any age who, because of mental or physical infirmity, is accepted as a dependent for income tax purposes.
    • Please note: In The Housing Registry, some providers may have different criteria about what constitutes a dependent child.
  • Senior – Defined as a single person age 55 and older, or a couple where at least one person is age 55 or older*
  • People with disabilities – Those who can live independently and are in receipt of a recognized disability pension or are considered disabled for income tax purposes.
  • Single people and couples – You are a single person, or a couple, with a low income and homeless, or at risk of homelessness. In addition, you do not meet the definitions of seniors or people with disabilities.

Wings Housing Society

Wings Housing Society provides housing assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS, including portable housing subsidies throughout British Columbia. Wings Housing also operates The Bonaventure, a 30-unit apartment building located in downtown Vancouver.
​
As a registered non-profit Society, Wings Housing is not a government agency, but we are accountable to government funders. The Society is governed by a Board of Directors that meets monthly.

We invite you to drop by, however please call ahead as we often have appointments or meetings that may require us to close the office.

​MPA Society  supportive housing program

​Various PHS Community Services Society Shelter’s
Currently, MPA Society supports over 700 units of Supported Housing by offering 12 different programs throughout the Vancouver region and 4 in the Fraser Health region. These programs provide flexibility in programming to meet the individual needs of each resident.

Staffing levels and support services range from locations with on site staff, which are available 24 hours each day, to independent living programs with bi-monthly outreach staff contact for tenants who reside in market rental apartments throughout Vancouver.

​Various PHS Community Services Society Shelter’s
​The Temporary Shelter Program provides temporary shelter options for individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Clients receive three meals per day and health and housing case planning to help transition from homelessness to permanent housing.
  • The program provides links to off-site resources, a safe consumption place, and an on-site medical clinic room for support services and in-reach programs.
  • Pets are welcome, and the program is wheelchair accessible.
  • Personal lockers are available for the safe storage of valuables and equipment such as carts, bicycles, and other equipment.
    ​

Various Community Builder Shelter's
Community Builders runs a supportive housing program that provides temporary housing for homeless adults of all genders who are at least 19 years old.
​
​The program has multiple sites around Vancouver and provides the following facilities:
  • Housing
  • Meals and Snacks
  • Showers
  • Laundry facilities

Pets are allowed in some sites, as long as they are on a leash or in a cage. The shelter can also accommodate shopping carts. 
Some sites are partially accessible and provide different levels of additional support services.

Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Lookout - Shelters Around The Greater Vancouver Area

Lookout - Yukon Shelter
The Lookout Shelters are open 24/7 and offer a range of services and assistance to those in need, including:
  • Crisis intervention
  • Phone and internet access
  • Laundry facilities
  • Showering and changing facilities
  • The Lookout Shelters are pet-friendly and offer on-site storage for valuables.
  • Three meals per day are provided, and the shelters have round-the-clock staffing.
  • The shelters provide harm reduction resources.
  • Some shelters have areas suitable for couples.

Lookout Shelters also provides temporary Extreme Weather Shelters.

Lookout Shelters: Support for Van's Homeless

The Kettle Society - Homeless Outreach Program

The Kettle Society - Community services - Homeless Outreach Program
The Homeless Outreach Program (HOP) at The Kettle is a program designed to assist anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness by helping them meet their immediate physical and safety needs.

Resources Provided:
  • Access to food and water
  • Warm clothing, undergarments, and shoes
  • Jackets and rain gear
  • Outdoor living equipment, including tents, tarps, and sleeping bags

Eligibility:
Anyone experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

HOP also offers assistance with BC Housing applications and Income Assistance, as well as referrals to Kettle programs and outside services.

The Homeless Outreach Program (HOP) at The Kettle provides essential support and resources to individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The Morning Star Program provides resources and information to individuals in need.

​Engaged Communities Canada Society
The Lower Mainland community is supported by a program that focuses on closing systemic gaps for marginalized areas. The program provides a range of services to vulnerable communities, including those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

​ These services include:
  • Food and hygiene products
  • Personal hygiene services
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Overdose prevention education and resources
  • Youth programming, including academic support, mentorship, athletics, and outdoor adventures

Inclusive Housing Initiative

Through the Inclusive Housing Initiative, CLBC is fostering partnerships in the housing, community living, and broader public sectors to support the creation of more accessible and affordable housing.

Key to Home Program:
  • Goal to help individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and service providers build awareness in their local communities for more inclusive housing
  • Research and information on the need for inclusive housing in B.C.
  • Materials to assist with presentations to local city councils, planners, developers, and non-profit housing providers to help ensure local community housing plans and projects include spaces for people with disabilities
  • A series of information sheets 

Inclusive Housing Plan:
  • In November 2018, Inclusion BC and Community Living BC launched a collaborative three-year plan to increase inclusive housing options in British Columbia
  • Four key areas:​
    • Data and Resources – to conduct research to outline current and future demand for inclusive housing 
    • Identity and visibility – to help the community living and housing sectors raise awareness among all stakeholders about the benefits of inclusive housing for both individuals and their communities
    • Affordability and finance – to support housing initiatives at the federal, provincial and municipal government 
    • Inclusive design – to support people with developmental disabilities to participate in planning and design

Home Again

Home Again Furniture Bank is a nonprofit organization that provides gently-used furniture to individuals and families in need. Our partner referring agencies rely on our service for their clients’ furniture needs.

Central to Home Again is a cycle of giving and receiving that provides our most vulnerable citizens the means to create a stable home life. Home Again provides furniture with a focus on generating comfort, dignity and stability. 
‍
Getting a good night’s sleep on a proper bed positively impacts work, study, relationships and overall well-being. Having a sofa to relax on with family makes life more enjoyable. Being able to offer family and friends a chair to sit on or a table to gather around brings dignity. Home Again helps to build pride in homes, self and our community.

HomeStart foundation acts as a support organization to charities that help people rebuild their lives. The people benefiting from our services include women and children escaping from domestic violence, families and individuals who have been homeless, people with mental and physical disabilities and refugee families.
