Legal Help
There are several options for free and low-cost legal services in Vancouver.
Legal Aid
We provide legal aid in BC. The law is complicated, but not everyone can afford a lawyer. We can help you with your legal issue.
Legal aid offers a range of free legal services to low income individuals and families. It is provided by Legal Aid BC and funded by the provincial government and organizations such as the Law Foundation of BC and Notary Foundation of BC.
Apply by phone in your community.

We're a small charitable organization of dedicated directors and staff who rely on the goodwill of thousands of volunteers to provide access to justice in every BC community.
We operate a free lawyer referral service and several pro bono programs serving the critical legal needs of people and non-profit organizations across BC.
You are eligible for Access Pro Bono services if:
You live in British Columbia.
You have a legal problem.
You meet our financial eligibility criteria.
You're not eligible for government-funded legal aid.
A couple of highlights from the Access Pro Bono website:
New - Everyone Legal Clinic
The Everyone Legal Clinic is a BC-wide and first-of-its-kind public interest law incubator launching in May 2022. The Clinic will engage and foster a diverse first group of 25 articling students and 5 new notaries in offering a full range of free and affordable legal services to everyone in BC—wherever they're located.

New - Phone operations will begin on May 2nd 2022 to book appointments starting May 23rd 2022. Please call 604-822-5791 to speak to our operator. Please note that LSLAP cannot give legal advice over the telephone. Our office hours are Monday to Friday from 10AM - 4PM. LSLAP is a non-profit run by law students at the Peter A. Allard School of Law at the University of British Columbia. We provide free legal advice and representation to clients in the Lower Mainland who would otherwise be unable to afford legal assistance. LSLAP assists low-income earners who live the Greater Vancouver Area with various legal issues. See the lists of 'Those We Can Help and Those We Cannot Help'. Due to the high number of clients, and our limited resources, we are unable to assist clients who qualify for or are currently receiving legal aid, or otherwise have retained legal representation. Since we are students, everything that we put out needs to be confirmed by our supervising lawyers before we do so. Hence, we have a turnover rate of about 2-3 weeks from your interview to giving you notice of if we can take your case or not. If you require urgent services, we highly recommend you seeking assistance elsewhere first (i.e. The Lawyer Referral Service). |
