Dress For Success - Vancouver

The Dress for Success program aims to boost the confidence and preparedness of individuals during job search and employment. They provide guidance and support to select an appropriate outfit for the interview.

The program offers services to women and gender-diverse individuals. If preferred, clients can request a private appointment.
  • Care packages are available for newcomers to Canada.
  • ​Virtual and in-person appointments are available.

​Eligibility:
  • Women and gender-diverse individuals who are seeking employment or are newly employed.
  • If you are currently working with an organization, your Case Manager may be able to submit a referral.
  • If you do not have a Case Manager, contact the program directly.

Dress For Success

The Kettle's Homeless Outreach Program

The Homeless Outreach Program (HOP) at The Kettle is a program designed to assist anyone who is homeless or at risk of homelessness by helping them meet their immediate physical and safety needs.

HOP also offers assistance with BC Housing applications and Income Assistance, as well as referrals to Kettle programs and outside services.

Resources Provided:
  • Access to food and water
  • Warm clothing, undergarments, and shoes
  • Jackets and rain gear
  • Outdoor living equipment, including tents, tarps, and sleeping bags

Eligibility: Anyone experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

Hours: Mon - Thurs | 9:30 am - 4 pm

Kettle's HOP

Distro Disco

The Distro Disco is a mobile service that provides homeless individuals with:
  • Donated items such as clothing, toiletries, and camping equipment
  • Safer drug use accessories, such as foil kits
  • Safer sex equipment, including condoms
  • Disposable masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer in response to COVID-19
    ​
The service parks at three locations in Vancouver, please check the webpage for specifics. 
Donation drives are held on the first Saturday of the month.

Morning Star Program

Participants share a free, hot nutritious breakfast and can access information and support in housing, advocacy, health care, and counselling. Showers and clothing are also available.

Services:
  • Collaboration with and outreach to local housing sites and organizations
  • Health-related education and support groups
  • A community advisory committee to inform RISE’s services
  • Information booths at community events and more
  • RISE on-site for immediate help or direction to proper care

Morning Star Program

Avalon Women's Centre

This organization operates resource and drop-in centers for women recovering from addiction.

Resources Provided:
  • Group support through 12-step recovery programs and virtual peer support meetings 
  • Child care is available.
  • Educational workshops and a lending library
  • A clothing exchange
  • Monthly potluck/AA meeting at 6 pm on the second Saturday of each month in Vancouver.

 Miscellany Finds- Women Working With Women Society

The thrift shop is a social venture that sells used items including:
  • Clothes
  • Accessories
  • Books
  • Jewellery

In addition to selling used items, the thrift shop provides employment initiatives that support:
  • Youth initiatives
  • Job skills and ready-for-work programs for women who face challenges in finding employment
  • Gift Certificate Program which allows women in need to purchase clothing and furniture for their homes

My Sister's Closet is a thrift store that advocates for zero-waste, eco-fashion, and the thrift movement. It strives to provide women, men, and children with access to quality clothing. Revenues from sales go to support Battered Women's Support Services.  

The organization also provides opportunities to:
  • Volunteer
  • Receive employment training
  • Access free apparel at the store
  • Access other support services

Donations of consignment-quality items are accepted during regular business hours.

Working Gear provides free clothing to individuals who are in need of assistance and are entering the workforce in the Lower Mainland. They provide industry-appropriate clothing, from a suit for an interview to construction workwear, so individuals can find paid employment.

Bette's Boutique

Bette's Boutique provides both material and emotional support to women and their families in the DTES. The organization provides free access to various resources.
  • Free toys, clothing, home goods, personal care items, and school supplies
  • Recommendations to Atira programs and a respite area with chairs, restrooms, hot beverages, snacks, and access to food hampers
  • Donations are accepted by the organization
