Gallery Gachet offers free drop-in computer use, which is open to everyone in the community. As there are a limited number of computers available, there may be a short wait at certain times.

How to connect to free public WiFi:
  1. Select the network name (#VanWiF, COV-Public, or VPL) from your device’s WiFi settings menu.
  2. Open your browser. You will be automatically redirected to the WiFi terms and conditions page.
  3. Read and accept the terms and conditions.
  4. You will be connected to the internet.

Repair Café

Grief Resources and Support Online with MyGrief.ca
The Repair Café offers free repairs for small appliances, electronics, and clothing. The goal of the Café is to reduce waste, boost sustainability, and avoid costly replacements. 

Details:
  • Dates vary, please register online to secure a time slot
  • Repairs are completed by volunteers, please be kind and patient with them
  • A list of specific items that are accepted and not accepted is available here
  • Free coffee and tea are available while you wait

BC Bereavement Helpline and Resources
 reBOOT Canada provides computer equipment, training, and technical support to charities, non-profits, and people with limited access to technology. 

Current Programs in Vancouver:
  • ​ reSTART: Provides refurbished computers to individuals in need, including people who receive financial assistance. Computers are provided at a minimal cost. The purpose of the program is to help people access education, find jobs, start businesses etc.

Uncomplicated and Complicated Grief: When to Consider Seeking Help

TELUS Internet for Good offers subsidized, high-speed Internet to qualified low-income families and seniors, youth aging out of care and people living with disabilities.

Eligibility:
  • Parents receiving the maximum Child Care Benefit
  • Persons with disabilities who are receiving PWD or AISH benefits
  • Youth in Government care
  • Seniors meeting GIS and OAS requirements
  • Refugees and Partnering Organizations 

Application:
  • Can apply online via the website
  • Can also apply by mail

Details:
  • Price for high-speed internet ranges from $10-$20 per month​

​Other Initiatives:
  • Free and low-cost computers are also available, depending on availability and eligibility 
  • TELUS Mobility For Good Program provides free smartphones and data plans to Indigenous women at risk of or surviving violence
  • TELUS also offers assistive technology to individuals with disabilities

Rogers - Connected for Success

Rogers Connected for Success offers high-speed, low-cost internet, TV bundles, and mobile plans to eligible individuals and families on social assistance programs in some provinces.

Eligibility:
  • People receiving income support, disability benefits, seniors of GIS, and other programs
  •  Rent-geared-to-income tenants, such as individuals on subsidized housing and resettlement assistance
  • Check your eligibility here

Details:
  • Annual renewal process required
  • BC residents can receive high-speed, low-cost internet and TV and internet bundles, as well as mobile plans
  • Application process may take up to 2 weeks

Tech For Home - BC Technology For Learning Society

BC Technology for Learning Society offers affordable technology to qualified individuals in need. Individuals can purchase high-grade refurbished desktop computers or laptops at significantly reduced prices.

Eligibility:
  • BC residents who are receiving government assistance or can show low income
  • Acceptable Government Assistance:
    • ​Student loans, income assistance, CPP, Disability payments, rent subsidies, Canada Child Benefits
  • Proof of low income: most recent tax return showing income less than $31,120

​Details:
  • Equipment can be shipped or picked up from the Burnaby location

Computer and Technology Training - Vancouver Public Library

Various Vancouver Public Library branches offer free computer and technology workshops and one-on-one assistance for seniors around Vancouver. Visit the website for more details and dates.

Available services include:
  • Drop-in Tech Help: 
    ​Simply bring in your device and library staff can assist you with any questions you might have. Get assistance on how to use your Apple and Android devices. Registration is not required. 
 
  • Introduction to the Internet and Internet Safety workshops: 
    Get a comprehensive introduction to the various aspects of internet safety and how to improve your online experience. VPL offers Zoom and in-person sessions.
 
  • Computer Practice Drop-in: 
    Bring your own device and get help from library staff. Simply drop-in during the scheduled time and learn how to use your device in a supportive environment. Registration is not required. 
 
  • Mobile Device Essentials:
    Hands-on workshops that teach you how to use apps, digital safety tools, and more. These workshops are available in various languages, including Cantonese and Vietnamese.
 
  • One-on-One Computer Technology Help: 
    50 minute sessions with a library staff member to work through any technology related issues and questions. Registration is required. 
VPL Computer and Technology Training

BC E-Bike Rebate Program

The BC Government is offering a rebate to low-income individuals who purchase a new electric bike. The initiative makes clean transportation more affordable and accessible for everyone. 
Note: Due to a high response rate, there is currently a waitlist for the rebate. 

Eligibility:
  • Applicants must be BC residents
  • E-bike purchase is a minimum of $2000 and completed through an approved retailer 
  •  Applicants must meet income qualifications
